Bear Down Pitching Explained: MLB The Show 26 Strategy Tips

How Bear Down Works

The Resource: Bear Down isn’t always on. It uses a stored charge system, so you have a limited number of activations per game.

The Effect: When you activate Bear Down, the Perfect Accuracy Region (PAR) shrinks. This smaller target makes it much easier to hit the exact spot you want. You’ll also get a small velocity boost, which can make your pitches tougher to hit.

Pitcher Attributes: A pitcher’s Clutch rating determines how many Bear Down charges they can store and how fast they earn more. Top-tier pitchers can store up to four charges, giving them multiple opportunities to shine in clutch situations.

Earning Charges: Perform well on the mound. Throw strikes, rack up strikeouts, and avoid walks to build your Bear Down reserve. Efficiency pays off.

How to Activate

To use Bear Down, hold LT (L2 on PlayStation) before selecting your pitch. You’ll see a prompt that shows it’s active.

Important: Bear Down does not auto-correct your throw. You still need perfect timing if you’re using the Meter or precision if you’re using Pinpoint. Think of it as a precision enhancer, not a cheat button.

Strategy Tips for Winning

  • Save It for Critical At-Bats: Use Bear Down when the stakes are highest—runners in scoring position (RISP) or a 3-2 count against a power hitter. Don’t waste it on routine outs.
  • Offset Fatigue: Later innings can be tough, and accuracy drops as your pitcher tires. Bear Down helps counter fatigue, keeping your strikes sharp.
  • Surprise the Batter: Opponents can’t see when you activate Bear Down. This makes it perfect for dotting the corners they expect you to miss.
  • Pair with Low-Usage Pitches: Secondary pitches usually have bigger PARs. Use Bear Down to tighten control on sliders, changeups, or curveballs when you need a strikeout.
  • Manage Stamina: Each Bear Down pitch drains more energy than a regular pitch. Overusing it early can shorten your starter’s outing, so plan carefully.

Mastering Bear Down is about timing, precision, and resource management. When used wisely, it can turn a close game into a confident win, giving you that edge over opponents in MLB The Show 26.
